POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Research Associate at Virginia Tech
The Department of Geological Sciences at Virginia Tech seeks candidates for
a permanent full-time (12-month) position as Research Associate in the
Electron Microprobe-SEM-XRD Facility. Duties include maintenance of a
Cameca SX50 electron microprobe, a Scintag XRD, and a CamScan SEM, as well
as assistance and training of faculty and students from diverse backgrounds
in the successful use of the facilities. Independent or collaborative
research is encouraged, however, the primary focus of the position is the
successful operation of the facility.
The candidate will also assume a variety of other duties including serving
as radiation safety officer and monitoring inventory.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Minimum
requirements include M.S. or Ph.D. in geosciences, material sciences, or
related fields. Direct experience with an electron microprobe and good
communication skills are essential.
