Virulent... as in memetic, media virus... the sale of a philosophy. In this
case, the one that the class system in America is based almost completely
on an individuals access to transportation... if you have off street
parking, you're a higher "class" of citizen than someone who doesn't...
this isn't based only on solely on money. The "upper class" in a cash
flow/social position sense, no longer fulfills a function, they could all
die tomorrow and their money would continue on as if nothing had
happened... and very few people would notice any change in their personal
life. They no longer order or structure society, which is becoming more
grounded in the whims of the "middle class."
the viral message, encapsulated, can be broken down into simple memes, such
as "class is a function of parking" or "personal freedom (access to
transportation), not money, is the currency of the modern class system" or
"I drive, therefore I'm rich."

To quote a car commercial quoting a popular song "Go where you want to go,
do what you want to do." That, more than wealth or power, is what being
"upper class" is all about, thats why car companies rely on it so much to
sell the basic vehicle of class mobility.

My point in re "feelbadism" is that people who like "feel bad" movies are
more motivated by personal constructs and internal schemata than by
upbringing or cash flow... they are simply people who see them as embodying
a deeper personal truth than a feel good movie...
