Announcement: A website for New Writing North (developing writers and
writing in the North of England) and the Durham LitFest 99 is now up at
http://www.newwritingnorth.com. It includes full programme details of
the festival, (June 5-22), some work from the education programme, with
more to come, some writing -related material drawing on the courses we
run for adults here, and links. Please give it a visit. I'll be adding
more to the links over the next few days, so if anyone's got any good
ones, let me know.

Any suggestions for X? (I was going to make some remark here about the
number of women in it, or nearly in it (Meehan, Riley, Rees-Jones,
Shapcott...) but I'm not going to bother. I will however second the
recommendation of Sarah Corbett. I think she had her first publication
in SCRATCH, which I used to edit.)
best,
Mark
