I have been reviewing a paper which includes a passing
assertion, unrelated to the main argument, that the
figure for risk of death from road accident in the UK is
around 1/1000 per person per year. However, my long-standing
belief, as a non-expert, shared by another non-expert whom I
have asked, is that the UK road death figures have long stood
at around 4000 - 5000 per year, which in a population of 60
million corresponds to a risk figure of the order of 1/10000
per person per year - an order of magnitude less that stated
by the author whose work I am reading.
So ... please does anyone know a figure (or perhaps a URL
pointing somewhere on the WWW) to establish a true figure.
Just an order of magnitude figure for a recent year would
suffice for this simple need of mine :)
