Mike Denham from Reading was right to emphasise the plurality of
good MSc courses in his response to Robin Reed in relation to
the Warwick 1st class student.
It should perhaps be mentioned that to our knowledge the EPSRC
scrutinises the quality of MSc courses in deciding on the
allocation of grants and does not rely only on the perception of
students yet to take these courses. The regular reviews take
account of both expert assessors and feedback from past students
and employers.
At Kent, our MSc in Statistics also includes Splus in its
teaching, and it is specifically designed to prepare individuals
for careers as professional statisticians in a variety of
areas. We are happy to consider applications from individuals
with a good degree in mathematics or statistics.
Last year we were oversubscribed, but we still have a couple of
EPSRC studentships available for the course starting October 1999.
