The university is considering whether some concession might be made to
applicants for asylum who have been resident in the UK for 3 years prior to
joining their course in exceptionally charging tuition fees at the home
rate. It would be most helpful if any institution which offers any form of
tuition fee concession to asylum seekers could let me know. If so, it would
likewise be helpful to know the average number of students who fall into
this category.
On a related point we have an asylum seeker who was charged fees at the
higher rate and whose application for asylum was approved after he had
completed his course. Normally the rate of fee would have been amended from
the date the application was aproved. His MP is arguing that it was not the
fault of the student that the application took so long to process and that
the fee should be amended on a retropective basis. Does anyone have
experience of having dealt with a similar case? many thanks Nick Buck
