I doubt very much whether the SLC will be able to provide lists in
alternative formats (electronic or sorted by surname) at this late stage;
but I will ask.
The format for next year's lists will almost certainly be electronic, so you
should be able to sort them however you like. I will ask for the issue to
be put on the action list for the DfEE Support Design Group.
Also, you WILL need to make provision to put the new Student Support Number
on your record systems. The plan is for the SSN to be sent to institutions
in electronic form with the UCAS number as cross-reference, so that the SSNs
can be loaded up without re-keying. The plan is that the first tranche of
SSNs will come in the file which will replace the AS1 return, at the end of
June, for students about to proceed to the second year of the course. I am
expecting the SSNs for new students will be sent in September.

Colleagues
i have taken over the list ownership, and have been aware that things
have been fairly quiet recently, so i am forwarding Lindsay Neil's
enquiry to you all for comment.
I can confirm that this was an issue at Brighton at Christmas. At that
time the only way we could deal with it was to
pull a list off our system of withdrawn/intemitting students in alpha
order and
slowly do the comparison. We are in the process of inputting loan
record information otno our main records database but , this is going
very slowly
and I am not sure if it will be done in time.
