At Aberdeen, two "sessions" for 'in person' graduations -
July (11 ceremonies) and November (2 ceremonies - mostly
for postgrads), max 200 graduands at each cremony (limit
set by Firemaster for our splendid hall).
Graduands complete an "Intention to Graduate" form, pay the
£30 fee and are sent instructions when the results are
received. Thus, all the ceremonies are pre-planned
(scripts, since we still use Latin, programmes etc); each
graduand gets a tickets for him/herself and two guest
tickets. A ballot is held for each ceremony for any spare
seats: some ceremonies have lots, some have none.
Graduands can buy tickets for one of two Balls (around £20
single ticket) and for Strawberry Teas in the afternoons.
Otherwise, no free glasses of sherry or whatever .. mean
Aberdonians.
