The UK GPNet project is now establishing Electronic links between
Pathology Laboratories and primary care users. It is planned to
procure updated software at a national level to support messaging
using NHS Standard EDI messages.
During the first quarter of 2000 there will be a final round of
consultation on specifications and work to resolve many
professional issues such as coding and encryption standards.
To oversee this work a professional issues resolution mechanism
has been established jointly between the Pathology and Primary
Care user communities. Each community will be represented by 3
professionals who will work alongside technical staff to reach
agreed standards for a number of issues involved in the safe
implementation EDI.
At present 2 pathology representives have been nominated with the
support of the RCPath (Margaret Heslop:haematology, Martin
Holland:biochem). There is a vacancy for a third member and this
email is an invitation for anyone from the UK with an interest to get
involved.
If anyone does wish to get involved please get in touch and I can
provide more details of the work involved. Some background can be
