It would seem that there is a great deal of enthusiasm for the creation of a
document exchange area on the ACB website.
Some concerns were raised which I will attempt to address;
Q.Many of you were concerned about files harbouring viruses.
A. I will check any contributions sent to me with the latest version Dr
Solomons Anti Virus Toolkit before they are incorporated into exchange area.
Q. There were concerns raised about document portability.
A. I will convert any document to RTF (rich text file) format which all word
processors can read. If you are using IE5 the document should open in the
Browser window. If you are using Apple Mac Communicator 4.01 on a Mac OS
7.5.5 you only have the option to save the file (sorry Jonathan).
What sort of documents would you like?. (Thanks to Steve Goodall for the
following)
1. Handling of non- / mis-labelled samples (Not a College or IBMS doc,
but a real life working one)
2. Simple docs that may be written by e.g. outpatient staff, but are for
biochemistry tests e.g. instructions for a 24-hour urine collection.
n.b. terms such as "at 09:00 void your bladder and discard" are NOT
allowed
3. As per the conversations on the mailbase - dealing with requests for
samples from the Coroner / police (contentious, I know, but may be useful)
4. Could I be so bold as to suggest "model" Operating Requirement docs
for e.g. analysers, IT systems. Surely, no matter how many times we write
an OR, we always manage to miss something out.
5. Anything that helps out with CPA.
6. Glucose meter policy.
Where do we go from here?.
That is really up to you. I will wait until 1st Nov for contributions and
then set up the necessary web pages. After that, I will try to update the
document exchange on a weekly basis. If a contributor wishes the removal of
a document from the archive, this will be possible by notifying me. Where
the contents of a document is not obvious from its title I will include a
very brief description. In the first instance I will attempt a crude
classification system which will become more refined as more documents are
received.
