Dear Dr Waise
Apologies for this going via the mailbase but I have tried your e-mail
several times and our server keeps refusing it hence the posting on to the
mailbase.
The Joint Working Group (JWG) is the organisation which oversees the
operation of the National Quality Assurance Advisory Panels in the UK
(NQAAP). The chairmen of each of the NQAAPs are represented as and there
are representatives from each of the major disciplines in the Royal College
of Pathologists, the ACB, ACP, Association of Clinical Microbiologists,
IBMS, Clinical Molecular Genetic Society, Pathological Society, British
Society of Haematologists, Association of Clinical Cytogeneticists, British
Blood Transfusion Society, British Society for Clinical Cytology, CPA (UK),
the Independent Healthcare Association, and the Departments of Health in the
UK. The Terms of Reference of JWG have been widely distributed previously
and I am happy to fax a copy.
JWG has already published a document on Near-Patient Testing and has
revisited these guidelines and expanded the previous guidelines. They are
called Point of Care Testing Guidelines. There has been extensive
consultation with all parties with an interest in this area. The guidelines
have been circulated to all Chief Executives of NHS Trusts and Publication
should be across all disciplines as carried in their Journal or as in the
case of the ACB, the Newsheet. CPA have taken note of the guidelines and
may use them in revising the standards.
I have been a representative for the College for the past 5 years and have
been Chairman of the group for the past year. I hope that this answers your
questions.
Regards
Bob
