Dear colleagues,
We are currently investigating whether we should correct the measured
creatinine clearance (using urine and plasma values) for the body
surface area. Historically, we use different methods on the different
locations of our lab. A very limited pilot study including 12
laboratories around the Netherlands showed that there is no consensus on
this subject. One third of the laboratories did correct the measured
creatinine clearance value for the body surface by children and adults,
one third only corrected by children and one third did not correct at
all.
We would like to expand this study and therefore we would like to ask
you, whether your lab does correct the measured creatinine clearance for
the body surface area and if so, what correction formula is used for
this purpose.
Furthermore, arguements why you should correct or shouldn't correct are
welcome.
Please give the name of your lab as well, because we have to check
whether there are more answers from one lab. I hope many of you will
join this study.
