Dear list members,
There is convincing literature available about doubt on both the
specificity and sensitivity of the bleeding time as a preoperative
screening test for excessive surgical blood loss, even in patients
treated with aspirin.
Could you give your view about routinely testing for bleeding time
abnormalities as a neccesary action before regional anaesthesia
(extradural block)?
I found a paper by O'Kelly et al. in Br.J.Anaest. (1992;68:313-315).
Are there more studies published ?
