Dear Dr Webster
Yes we have measured fluoride in plasma and urine in previous studies
of Halothane metabolism using an ion selective electrode for fluoride
attached to an ordinary pH meter. I think we just diluted the samples and
calibrators into a strong buffer to maintain consistent ionic strength.
However if there is fluoride added to your water supply then this will
make such a project difficult. Fluoride intake from fluids in hospitalised
patients may be much lower as the specialised fluids may be fluoride
free so you have to be careful your fluoride measurements don't just
reflect how much tap water the patient is drinking.

Does anyone have any experience of fluoride estimation ? One of our
anaesthetists would like to do a project on fluoride.
How is it measured. Can the equipment be easily purchased/ how much
etc
Does anyone offer the assay
Craig Webster
