To my knowledge, the UN602 requirements come into force from 1
April 1999 for INFECTIOUS materials (including microbiology
diagnostic specimens), as originally announced, while for
diagnostic specimens which are not expected to contain
pathogens the previous 'pathological specimens rules' continue to
apply.

I suspect that Hays are 'trying it on'!
