Konrad Chan asked about LDH on the Vitros Analyser.
Why measure LDH ?
As a Vitros user I (stupidly ?) started offering LDH assays a few years ago
to the haematologists as seem to find it useful in monitoring some
patients. As with most Viros tests it is simple and precise but a
relatively expensive test on my contract with Ortho Diagnostics.
Until then I have had no routine experience of offering LDH in 20 years as
a clinical chemist in London teaching hospitals and thus did not have the
problem of changing methods.
Now I am finding it difficult to stop clinicians asking for this relatively
useless non specific test. The demand increases constantly and the MLSOs
are complaining - anticipating slide use for orders for easy stock control
is a major problem with Vitros systems.
Do others still offer the test ?
If so under what circumstances and how do they control demand ?
