Like Dr Steiner we use the PEG technique as a screening test. If it is
"negative" the P/S results measured using the Boehringer Mannheim (what are
they called now?) Pancreatic alpha-amylase kit (on a Cobas Mira). If the PEG
test results indicate a possibility of a macroamylase, then we follow up
with electrophoresis on cellulose acetate - a modified Legas & Kenny
technique. In general the macros will show a "smearing" effect.
