I attended a presentatoin earlier this year at the Australian Institute of
Sport (AIS) where a range of commonly available biochemical and
haematological markers were measured in cohorts of fit and not-so-fit
persons. My recollection is that there was remarkably little difference
either between groups or between individuals at different stages of
fitness. I short I am not aware of any blood test that can anser this
question. It may be worth contacting the AIS (they should have a contact on
their web site) to check my recollection.
