hi kathleen
i am half way through my masters program at Victoria uni at wellington. i have only recently taken up post as a midwifery lecturer, so i feel my masters research should be in the education field. i am especially interested in the professional development of midwives, and have carried out some work into professional portfolios.
i am also becoming increasingly interested in the internet and email, and the role it plays in midwives' lives.
i am carrying out a special topic paper in the summer, looking broadly at the internet, and hopefully, will be developing my own web site.
next year i am taking papers called midwifery knowledge and research methodolgy. in the midwifery knowledge paper i hope to explore feminist theory because i have to admit to only now becoming aware
of feminist issues (i can't believe i have been a midwife for xxx amount of years; studied for 7 years; and only now becoming aware of the meaning of feminism.)
to summarise, i have a wide spectrum of interests and want my research to benefical to the midwifery profession. the other thing i wonder about is how easy it would be for me to access clinical data now that i am working in the polytech as opposed to the clinical area. i am also new to dunedin - i do not have a network of contacts here as i have else where. this is why i find mailing lists like this so wonderful - the networking that goes on is invaluable.
so there you have it. what do you think?
regards sarah
