MGC Celebrates Registration Success - 25.05.99

Registration Scheme and
the 100th Registration Committee meeting.

The MGC has published Global Assets, a new report which focuses on
the export of skills and
services relating to the movable heritage overseas.
Britain's Canal Heritage Awarded Designated Status - 25.05.99
The Museums & Galleries Commission has awarded The National
Waterways Museum at
Gloucester and the Boat Museum, Ellesmere Port, Designated status.
Museums Week 1999
Museums Week 1999 was launched by Culture Secretary Chris Smith at
the Imperial War
Museum in London. Funded by the Museums & Galleries Commission and
organised by the
Campaign for Museums, this year's Museums Week takes place from
Saturday15 to Sunday 23

MGC Issues Guidance on Looted Works of Art
The Museums & Galleries Commission has issued guidance to all UK
non-national MGC
Registered museums and galleries on researching their collections
for works of art stolen during
the Nazi, Holocaust and World War II period.
MGC Website hits 100,000
In the first two weeks of its launch the MGC website has generated
more than 100,000 hits.
Work has already begun on phase two of the site which will focus on
adding more information to
the Advice section, developing a search facility and adding free
down-loadable fact sheets.
