Out Of School Hours Learning Activities
There is £180 million available UK-wide for the creation of regular out
of school hours learning activities in half of all secondary and special
schools, and a quarter of all primary schools.
The range of learning activities NOF will support is very wide. Projects
may help young people with key skills, including literacy, numeracy and
ICT; sports, games and adventurous outdoor activities; creative ventures
like music, drama and art; mentoring and opportunities for volunteering
activities, as well as the pursuit of particular interests like science
or languages. The list goes on and on but the activities mentioned give
an idea of the diversity we will be looking for.
Activities can take place before school, after school, at lunchtimes,
weekends and in the school holidays. They can be run by schools or, for
example, voluntary and community groups, and can take place on or off
school premises. NOF can fund projects that enhance or expand existing
facilities, or create new ones and will welcome applications from groups
of schools, and schools working with other organisations to maximise
opportunities for children and young people within a particular area.
