The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), with headquarters in Geneva,
Switzerland, and more than 200 field offices throughout the world, seeks a qualified,
experienced Associate Archivist (P-2).
Reporting directly to the UNHCR Archivist, the Associate Archivist will provide training and
guidance and direct supervision of the records management staff; train and brief UNHCR staff
in HQ on records management procedures and matters; oversee the testing, introduction and
functioning of the Electronic Document Management System; maintain the file classification plan;
review existing records schedules and develop and negotiate new schedules where
necessary; confer with the Archivist regarding the appraisal of inactive records and supervise
work in the UNHCR Archives storage areas in close consultation with the Archivist.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: University masters degree in archival management, or a
masters degree in arts with either a concentration in archival management or with additional
equivalent training as provided by universities and/or professional archival associations.
Training and experience in records management. Thesis based upon archival research highly
desirable. At least two years experience in managing paper and electronic archives and
records management programmes, experience with large paper and electronic collections and
experience managing non-professional staff. Experience with electronic records management
and preservation programmes highly desirable. Experience within a large organization and/or
within an international organization highly desirable. Fluency in English is essential, with a very
good knowledge of French higly desirable.
