The French as I know it runs "sonnent les matines" [the -ent being
regularly pronounced in song, though not in speech], for which "morning
bells are ringing" is an adequate translation [though I wonder whether
"matines" means "morning bells" or "matins" i.e. office in the middle of
the night]
Are you saying you know of a version that runs "sonnEZ les matines"?
