I don't have much to add to John Shinners's thorough summary, but as she
sits faithfully above my computer, doing her best to keep the breakdowns at
bay, I feel compelled to contribute. Dymphna has been identified with
Damnat, the sixth-century founder of Tedavnet (Tech-damnata) in Co.
Monaghan. I'm not sure how long she's supposed to have stayed in Ireland,
but if you visit Dublin, you can see her crozier (which I think dates from
the tenth century) in the National Museum. She seems little known in
Ireland today, but Gheel still has processions in her honor. I believe she
was discussed on the list before, maybe around her feast day.
