TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR CENTRAL AND EAST EUROPEAN MAP LIBRARIANS
Dear Colleagues,
At the recent LIBER Groupe des Cartothecaires conference in Krakow, the
Group's Central and Eastern European Working Party asked whether there was
any possibility of Western European countries offering training in map
librarianship to colleagues from Central and Eastern Europe.
This message is a tentative start to offer something based in the United
Kingdom. It has been envisaged that a number of map libraries could pool
their resources and offer short stints for a visiting librarian/s. Hosts
would be expected to provide both training and accommodation for the
trainee.
At this preliminary stage it would be helpful if map librarians keen to
participate could express an interest, then we could devise a training
programme and geographical schedule for the trainee/s.
It is envisaged that the programme could be offered some time in the next
two years.
Should you wish to contribute to a such a programme, (or simply express
an interest), please complete the appended questionnaire (supplied both as
a Word attachment, and in the body of this text), and return it to myself.
All responses will be forwarded to Steffi Mittenzwei (Chairman of the
Working Group). Feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss
this further.
With best wishes,
Nick
