Design of roods, James Mills
Recently, some questions have arisen concerning the design of the crucifix
ends, vertical and horizontial. Information derived from <Danmarks kirker>
indicates that the symbols of the evangelists was the choice for the design.
Where the end designs were left empty, I believe that it is probable that
the symbols of the evangelists were painted. Other empty ends have holes for
gemstones.
The name of the church, the volume and page is given for these entries. All
of these entries have associated illustrations.
This list covers the period 1100-1350. If this is of use to others, please
let me know. I will complete the information for the period 1350-1650, and
post it in ORB
