DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION
by Mick Couper
DATES: 8-9 February 1999
VENUE: The Royal Statistical Society
12 Errol Street, London EC1Y 8LX
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Course Description
This course presents an overview of computer assisted interviewing
(CAI) methods and computerized self-administered questionnaires
(CSAQ). The course will focus mainly on CAPI (computer assisted
personal interviewing) and CATI (computer assisted telephone
interviewing), but methods such as CASI (computer assisted
self-interviewing) and audio-CASI, as well as CSAQ such as
disk-by-mail, e-mail and Web surveys will also be discussed. The
course will focus on issues related to the design and execution of
computer assisted surveys. The course will not be prescriptive, but
will rather aim to sensitize participants to the key issues in
designing, developing and implementing computer assisted surveys.
Target Audience
The course is aimed at persons involved in the development and
implementation of surveys using computer assisted methods, or who are
considering such methods for future surveys. this includes
researchers, practitioners, programmers, data collection staff, and
anyone who uses sample surveys, regardless of method or substantive
focus. A working knowledge of survey data collection methods will be
assumed. The course does not require knowledge of or experience with
any particular CAI software system.
Course Materials
Participants will receive copies of overhead transparencies and a
reading list.
