In a letter from an association for Pre~School carers I received an article
about airway management in infants. I have been asked to include the content
of the article in presentations to Pre~School carers as part of First Aid
courses. Any comments on the following?
Keith Foster
.............current life saving practices may not be appropriate for very
young children. Manequinnes are not anatomically correct, having the mouth and
nose too close together, the tongue too small and only the mouth leading to
the lungs. .........the average woman cannot cover the mouth and nose at the
same time. (re resusitation by mother)........she should not breath into the
mouth at all since it is likely to inflate the stomach, further impeding lung
action and adding to the danger of vomiting and aspiration.
