My name is Thomas Cole and I'm graduated in medieval history at the
university of Gent (Belgium). During an academic exchange project at
the university of Alcala de Henares (Spain, 1995-1996), I started working
on my dissertation (finished july 1997) on the Spanish and Portuguese
students that studied at the university of Leuven between 1400 and 1600. I
found 280 names and tried to construct a same number of biographies of
those students. In 1997 I started, but this time as "free researcher", to
make the same kind of biographies of the ITALIAN students in the same
situation. In 1997-1998 I stayed at the Bolognese Collegio dei Fiamminghi,
and right now I'm researcher at the Roman Academia Belgica to continue my
research. In the meanwhile I'm still updating the biographies of the
Spanish and Portuguese too, in order to give a general survey of the
mediterranean population at Leuven University in the XV and XVI centuries,
resulting in an actual amount of 100 Portuguese, 300 Spaniards and 200
Italians. A big part of them belonged to religious orders (Benedictine,
Franciscan, Dominican, Jesuit, etc...) or came to Leuven for their studies
in theology or canon law. Some of them even became bishop or
"protonotarius apostolicus" after their visit to Flanders.
If anyone on italian-studies
1) is interested in the results of my research
2) thinks she/he is able to help me by furnishing new or recent
information
3) thinks she/he's doing research on one of these students
4) has any comment on my research
