That's interesting, I heard or read somewhere (alas I have forgotten
where!) that the four crosses on the cross of Jerusalem, a.k.a. the
crusader cross, stood for the four Latin states in the East: Edessa,
Antioch, Tripoli, and Jerusalem, with the kingdom of Jerusalem at the head,
hence the larger cross too. Has anyone else heard of this explanation, too,
(or did I just invent it in my own imagination)?
