Making the most of the Internet
11 November, Birmingham
As the range of Internet information grows, there is a vital role for
librarians and information specialists in helping users to find useful
information.
This event is designed to help those with some experience of Internet
usage to gain a better understanding of how to exploit the Internet as
an information resource and as a component in the service for
'customers', including SMEs (small to medium sized enterprises).
How will this event help you?
It will help you to understand the various methods of 'navigating'
through this large, but uncatalogued collection of information.
In particular the focus on 'search engines' will enable you to;
* identify the most relevant search service for an enquiry
* choose the most appropriate search technique to use to interpret
results
The session on Web Site Basics will help you to assess what is involved,
technically and financially, in setting up and maintaining a web site
for your own organisation or for some cooperative project
The workshop includes up-to-date information about key issues and
projects. The Working in Partnership session examines co operative
ventures between libraries and businesses and between libraries and
colleges.
Features
The day includes a practical hands-on session which will give you the
opportunity to test out some of the techniques covered, and to visit web
sites which may be relevant to your particular role in your
organisation.
