Hi Jon,
I think that you have an inherent difficulty in your search for evidence, if you want to look at innovative practice that is not solely focused on drugs since 'large scale trials' are difficult for local GPs to organise and really only lend themselves to drug trials - RCT culture.
On the non-drug side there have been quite a few innovative approaches within GP surgeries and primary care teams, looking at ways to tackle community issues.
If you are interested check out: A review of innovations in primary health care, by Lyn Harrison and Hilary Neve (1996), The Policy Press, Bristol Uni. ISBN 1 86134034 6.
I have some other info as well, if you would like more references.
Good luck with the PhD

Dear All,
I'm currently undertaking a PhD on the social networks of GPs and how
that affects the diffusion of innovations *and various other bits and
pieces).
I'm trying to identify innovations (probably drugs, but not necessarily)
that have been released in the UK in the last 2-3 years. The main
problem appears that few innovations appear with large scale trials to
support them. Therefore potential innovators will innovate as a result
of poor evidence. But if a new innovation came out with 'good' evidence
would a different diffusion pattern be seen?
The point to my request! Can anyone suggest any GP-focussed innovations
released in the UK in last 2-3 years which had, at the time of release,
good quality evidence to support them?
I look forward to any replies.
