Many healthcare professionals and those in related industries struggle
with reading and understanding research articles. CASP has undertaken
350 workshops attended by over 6000 people, teaching healthcare
professionals and lay members of committees how to search, find,
critically appraise research papers and then put into practice
evidence-based healthcare decisions.
Now, we have transformed the contents of our workshops to make this
process easier in two ways a) onto a multi-media CD-Rom and b) an open
learning resource, which encompass the activities and knowledge required
to successfully make healthcare decisions based on "good" research-based
evidence and put them into practice. The advantages of open learning
resources include:
i. they can be accessed at a time and place suitable for the individual
ii. they will act as a reinforcement of learning by having many different
and practical cases, tasks and activities to work through
iii. they will act as a pre-workshop introduction to those with a much
lower baseline knowledge
iv. they are accessible to a much wider audience
v. and finally important tools for all higher education establishments
