It's extremely problematic whether any medieval person can be diagnosed
with a disease that is so modern in its construction. The best and more
extended effort was made by Rudolph Bell in his book _Holy Anorexia_
which tried to re-define the basic symptoms in medieval terms. A far
more subtle approach to the question is Caroline Bynum's _Holy Feast,
Holy Fast_ which avoids the modern terminology.
