Greetings all,
Would anyone on the list know of any medieval sources for the legend of
James Intercisus, the 5c Persian saint who was dismembered piece by piece
during his martyrdom? I found a few sites on the Internet which contained
information about him, one of which cites Butler's Lives, but this source
is not early enough for my purposes. I haven't checked the Legenda Aurea
yet because I don't have it at hand, but he may well be there. Does
anyone know if James appears in the Sarum sanctoral? What I'm really
interested in is the popularity/distribution of this story in the Middle
Ages. Where would a 15c English preacher have found this story?
Many thanks in advance,
Clint
