Today, 24 August, is the feast of ...
* Bartholomew, apostle (first century) - apostle of India?; churches in
Benevento and Rome are among those holding relics
Last year Dr. Felicitas Schmieder asked:
One of the important places with relics of Barholomew is Frankfurt/Main -
could any of the list-members add places with important relics of
Bartholomew (and, perhaps, when they were brought there?)
Julia Barrow replied:
Crowland Abbey was dedicated to St Bartholomew, and Felix' Life of St
Guthlac (1st half of the 8th c) is full of references to St B.
* Martyrs of Utica (258?) - popularized by Prudentius, based on the name
of the place where these Christians were buried, 'Massa Candida'
* Audoenus or Ouen, bishop of Rouen (684) - while a child, his father
entertained the exiled St Columban in his house; some relics were
translated to Canterbury
