No, I will not be looking at this topic, although the importance of
Savonarola to the city in the last decade of the 14th century does, of
course, inform my understanding of the history of Florence.
I am more concerned with an understanding of convents as institutions which
have roles to play in the life of the city. Convents of this time appear to
me to have modeled themselves on certain social institutions. Of course
this process of modeling is iterative rather than a one-way occurence, but
I am interested in the way that the nuns I am studying adopted language and
postures which are familiar from other situations.
I hope this has answered your question.
Regards
Justine
