"The text I'm editing has two quotes attributed to Augustine I just
can't seem to nail down. I've done searches on both the PL database
and CETEDOC, to no avail.
Susan"
Dear Susan,
>From my experience in editing a fourteenth-century schoalstic text
some time ago, I remember that Augustine can be a tough one. PL
database and CETEDOC rarely contain all the texts that were
attributed to Augsutine during the Middle Ages. If you have the title
of the work attributed to Augustine, I suggest you look in some older
editions, preferably seventeenth century or earlier: they often
contain more pseudo-Augustinian material than later editions.
For the rest: browsing sometimes is the only method !!
It drove me nuts too, but eventually I found almost all quotations,
and what a joy if you find one small quote!!
Good hunting,
Frans van Liere
