Dear Wojtek,
You might want to look at the special issue on the World Stress Map (WSM)
Project of the Journal of Geophysical Research (Vol. 97, No. B8, 1992).
A summary article by Mary Lou Zoback and Kevin Burke describing results
of this project was published in EOS Trans. AGU (Vol. 74, No. 52, 1993).
On the homepage of the WSM Project at
http://www-gpi.physik.uni-karlsruhe.de/pub/wsm/
you will find color illustrations, stress field maps, and more
information such as links to other WSM and stress related homepages.
I would also like to recommend the excellent book on "Stress Regimes in
the Lithosphere" by Terry Engelder (Princeton University Press, 1993).
Good luck with your talk.
Best regards,
Jurgen
