I dunno, I think what a subject "means" to each individual will,
of course depend on that individual. The difficulty I have with
post modernism is its relativity...Just because you believe that
the sun goes around the earth doesn't mean that it does in fact
do so. Another problem with postmodernism, which I think Sokal
hit right on the head is its political implications. If we become
allow that society is multi-vocal and that everything is as true
as everything else (or at least that this is a valid
philosophical viewpoint) then how can we say that sexism, racism
etc are in fact wrong? It denys any platform for critique of any
kind.
