I've been absent from the list for some time, immersed in the study of
crusade preaching, vow redemptions and financing of the crusades from
roughly 1200-1240. One of the more fascinating aspects is tracing
just what happened to alms collected in the crusading trunks made
infamous by Walter von Vogelweide. I've been looking at a statute for
St. Quentin, made up by Robert of Courson and J. de Barastre, dean of
St. Quentin, who I suspect is none other than that Jean who was so
generous to the Dominicans when they first arrived in Paris.
My question is, are there any good secondary works or printed
cartularies, etc., on Saint Quentin, or on the good Jean de Barastre
himself (aside from the inevitable paragraph in general works on the
Dominicans?) Many thanks in advance--the Bodleians' notorious
cataloguing system is useless for searching by subject prior to the
1980s.
