Dear List Members,
I wanted to draw your attention to a source on the Web that I edit:
The Medieval Feminist Index:
Scholarship on Women, Gender, and Sexuality
http://www.haverford.edu/library/reference/mschaus/mfi/mfi.html
The Index covers journal articles, book reviews, and essays in collections
from all academic disciplines. Because of the explosion of research in
Women's Studies during the past two decades, scholars and students
interested in women and gender during the Middle Ages find an ever-growing
flood of publications. The Index aims to become a reliable guide to the
scholarship, providing timely coverage, a wide range of publications
indexed on a regular basis (350+ journals are now being checked), and a
thorough description of each item (in addition to the usual author, title,
subjects, and source, MFI includes century, geographic area, descriptions
of illustrations and tables, and primary evidence used). There are
currently over 2500 records in the database for publications from 1994
through 1997 with 150+ records being added every other month. Materials in
English, French, German, and Spanish are currently being indexed with
Italian to be added soon. Authors who find their articles indexed in MFI
are encouraged to send the editor brief abstracts for inclusion in the
database records.
The project is supported by the libraries of Haverford College and the
University of Iowa. Volunteers in both the United States and Europe
contribute indexing, with the European indexers frequently sending records
for journal articles that are difficult to obtain in the United States.
Essay collections recently indexed in MFI include: Women and Religion in
Medieval and Renaissance Italy ( Edited by Daniel Bornstein and Roberto
Rusconi. University of Chicago Press, 1996), Hidden Springs: Cistercian
Monastic Women. Books One and Two. Medieval Religious Women, Volume
Three. (Edited by John A. Nichols and Lillian Thomas Shank, O.C.S.O.
Cistercian Publications, 1995), and Sanctity and Motherhood: Essays on Holy
Mothers in the Middle Ages (Edited by Anneke B. Mulder-Bakker. Garland,
1995).
Please contact me if you have questions or suggestions for additional
journals or essay collections to be indexed.
Yours,
Margaret Schaus
