Dear Joe,
I do not know if this helps, but Lazarus (yes, the one and the same that
Christ resurrected) was venerated as a saint. The cathedral of Autun,
France (12thc) is dedicated to him. They claim at least the relic of his
head (i know of documents from the 15th century, and i saw it there a few
years ago). Also, nearby Avallon claimed to possess his head. This caused
something of a dispute in the 15th century. Blessedly the proceedings of
this legal battle survive.
See: Anatole de Charmasse, "Enquete faite en 1482 touchant le chef de Saint
Lazare conserve a Avallon", Bulletin de la societe d'etudes d'Avallon,
1865, pp. 1-87.
I don't know if we are talking about the same Lazarus here, but you might
check Autun and Avallon.
happy hunting.
cheers,
Scott B. Montgomery
