In addition to the two movies Deborah Shepherd mentions, I'd suggest a
cuple of others specifically for how they can help us teach the "Middle
Ages": The Return of Martin Guerre (French w/ English subtitles; not
strictly medieval but close enough; about land, marriage, identity,
peasants, the Church and law); The Anchoress (like The Raven little
seen in the US but available; about women's spirituality); Monty Python
and the Holy Grail (I'm serious; the group sends up many modern
assumptions about the Middle Ages and also its some key parts of
later medieval consciousness). I suggest these movies
as additions to my post earlier about teaching the Middle Ages in schools.
