Dear Louise,
I'd suggest the article by Denis Renevey, 'Enclosed Desires: A Study
of the Wooing Group', in William F. Pollard and Robert Boenig, ed.,
_Mysticism and Spirituality in Medieval England_ (Cambridge: Brewer,
1997); you'd probably also be interested in some of the other
articles in this volume.
Best wishes,

(can I, while I'm on the subject, apologize to the list collectively
for the slightly overheated tone of my last posting, which I think
was rather unfair to Bill East? The view he was passing on is, after
all, that of the EETS editor of WG and some other perfectly
respectable scholars. What led me to write, to be honest, was less
the 'overheated' than the 'nun'; an original audience of nuns for
this group of texts has been postulated on and off for the last 150
years, again by respectable scholars, and there just isn't any
_evidence_ for it . . .)
