Tradition and Renewal
This three-day conference will focus on problems in the development of
family law in Europe, with particular emphasis on Northern Europe, Scotland
and the North Sea countries. The conference will take place at the
Univeristy of Aberdeen 3 - 5 July 1998 and will cover family law from the
middle ages to the present.
Keynote presentations will include the following speakers:
Professor Richard Helmholz, Chicago Law School
Professor Charles Donahue, Jr., Harvard Law School
Professor James A. Brundage, University of Kansas;
Mr. David Sellars, Edinburgh Law School.
Dr. Per Ingesmann, Århus University (Denmark)
Mr. James Robertson, University of Dundee.
The conference will cover the themes below:
Continuity and tradition in canon law in the Middle Ages
The survival and transformation of canon law, particularly in Reformation
and post-Reformation societies, primarily in the region around the North Sea
Modern canon law and modern family law.
