Subject: New Book - FYI
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Excuse the "form letter", but I would like to announce this forthcoming
book:
_Modern Retellings of Chivalric Texts_
Edited by Gloria Allaire
This book will complement existing studies of medievalism in the
Enlightenment and Victorian eras by identifying more recent adaptations of
chivalric material and by broadening the inquiry on the nature of revivals
to examine why modern writers take up older texts.
The collection of ten essays includes retellings of chivalric source texts
in different media: literary, cinematic, and theatrical. They address
such issues as why a particular model was chosen and how its retelling
depends on the modern author/auteur's misreading or re-reading of medieval
chivalric conventions.
