RGS/IBG Annual Conference
Leicester, 5-7 January 1999
Session Title: 'Public Services and the Market'
Half-day session (pm) - Thursday 7th January 1999
******************************************************************
CALL FOR PAPERS
******************************************************************
The introduction of market principles in providing state services is
now well established and research examining the consequences of such
changes is beginning to grow. This session will address the concept of
using market mechanisms in the provision of public services in a range
of different sectors, such as education, health, housing, social and
community care. This is also a good time to examine and discuss any
changes to such an approach under the new Labour Government.
This session is designed to be multi-disciplinary and welcomes
resesarch on any form of the welfare state. Of particular importance
are the following: 1. Examination of the 'spatial' quasi-market 2. The
geographies of these public services 3. The impacts on social and
cultural landscapes
Please send a title and abstract, of no more than 200 words, to me by
