Except for the fact that the Church's opposition to abortion, including
those herbally induced, goes all the way back to the _Didache_ (early 2nd
c. at the latest) and was repeated continuously in conciliar legislation
in the Graeco-Roman context. I would be surprised if this was entirely
missing in the early Middle Ages, regardless what the barbarian law codes
emphasized.
