Since Ladislaus of Hungary has been mentioned, how about Istvan (Stephen),
c.975-1038, the king responsible for converting the Magyars (by force when
necessary) to Christianity? As far as I know there isn't an English
translation of his vita, but there are a few useful secondary sources on
11th-cent. Hungarian history in English and German.
Incidentally, I wonder whether Scott Montgomery could expand on what he said
about Ladislaus being intended as the leader of the 1st Crusade?
